The team continued their investigation in a remote forested region known as "the Fork," focusing on a natural choke point where previous nest structures had been documented. Working from their base camp, the researchers deployed an array of lidar sensors paired with infrared cameras designed to track moving objects in real time. During nocturnal surveillance, the system detected movement on the outskirts of the detection range, prompting primatologist Mireya Mayor and researcher Biko Wright to investigate on foot. The team also reported hearing unusual howls near base camp that Wright, despite extensive field experience with native wildlife, could not attribute to known animals such as bears, mountain lions, or canids. Six miles away, survivalist Russell Acord pursued a separate thermal signature near a location where team member Bryce had previously documented two possible subjects crossing a road.

Mayor and Wright spent several hours tracking toward the movement detected by the lidar array, following the vocalizations toward a creek in challenging terrain. Meanwhile, Acord attempted a steep descent through dense forest to reach the location of his thermal contact, which he observed moving deliberately rather than exhibiting typical foraging behavior. Despite the promising sensor data and acoustic activity, the night investigation yielded no fresh tracks or additional vocalizations. The team concluded their nocturnal search without visual confirmation, though the lidar system successfully demonstrated that an unidentified subject had approached their camp perimeter before retreating from the area.
